Larry Johanson
Facilitator of Personal Transformation
Larry was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, and emerged from a childhood almost broken from the beatings and emotional abuse he received from parents and teachers and bullying from peers in the schoolyard and on the streets.
Intuitively, he knew he was deserving of a better life, went on what he called his “vision quest” and discovered The Three Pillars of Zen written by Roshi Philip Kapleau. He began doing zazen, the meditation practice of Zen practitioners which Roshi Kapleau outlined in the book.
Later he had the great good fortune to meet Roshi Kapleau, who confirmed that it was quite possible for Larry to awaken to his True Nature and live a life suffused with Compassion, Love, Joy, and Equanimity. Roshi Kapleau became his beacon of light, a model of excellence, and his first Zen teacher.
Larry regained his emotional balance and resilience, enough to grasp opportunities to go to university. He discovered his passion for helping people transform their trauma to transcendence, drawing upon his own adverse childhood experiences, the knowledge he gained from his academic pursuits and the wisdom he gained from his lifelong practice of Zen meditation.
His mission is to help people and organizations (which are run by people), to become caring, compassionate, productive citizens and organizations.
He has authored and created courses on Personal Development, Leadership, Communication and Mastering Breath Awareness, the Mindfulness Meditation Self Mastery Program; led and facilitated courses and workshops in Australia, Britain, Canada, and the U.S.
